Addressing audiences on a wide variety of topics, Loren is a versatile public speaker. Whether sharing her experiences as an international level figure skater, as Miss Massachusetts 2010, or as a third generation Holocaust survivor,  Loren speaks from the heart and connects to listeners on a personal level.

April, 2015

From Darkness to Light, Baltimore, MD

At this program honoring Yom HaShoah, Loren spoke to the congregants of Ner Tamid about her grandparents experiences during the Holocaust and as new American immigrants. She conducted a second program for children ages 8-18, speaking about Jewish identity in the modern age and her experiences as a Jewish athlete and pageant winner.

Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA

Loren was the keynote speaker for the Buck's County Night of Jewish Learning, which brought together members of the Jewish community of greater Philadelphia to discuss Jewish identity and the importance of giving back. Loren spoke about her experiences as an athlete, Miss America contestant and future physician.

Jewish Endowment Foundation of Louisiana, New Orleans, LA

As the keynote speaker at the the JEF's annual event, Loren spoke on the subject of "Surviving, Thriving and Making a Difference." 

 

November, 2012

Rockland Community College, Spring Valley, NY

In a program organized by the Rockland County Holocaust Museum and Study Center, Loren spoke to an the students of Rockland County Community College, local high school students and members of the Rockland County Jewish Federation about her grandparents story of survival during the World War Two, her journey to Miss America, and the importance of remembering the events of the Holocaust so that history is not repeated.

The Crane Estate, Ipswich, Massachusetts

This fundraising event for North Shore Jewish Federation was entitled “Choose to Connect.” Loren spoke about the importance of charity—and how her grandmother’s commitment to helping others helped her to survive the Holocaust. 

 

March, 2012

Drew University Hillel, Madison, New Jersey

Loren participated in a Shabbat service and spoke to the Drew University Hillel community about Holocaust education. She then presented Drew University Hillel’s first Woman of Valor Award to Ann L. Saltzman, Ph.D. Director of Drew’s Center for Holocaust/Genocide Study.

 

Boston Public Library, Boston, Massachusetts

Loren spoke about the World Memory project, a collaboration between the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Ancestry.Com. This partnership has created a way for people all over the world to contribute to the digitization of the museum’s hundreds of thousands of records of Nazi atrocities.

 

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington D.C.

Loren spoke to the Young Leadership delegations from Chicago, New York and Washington D.C. about her grandmother’s story and the importance of the USHMM. The museum serves both as a memorial to the victims of Nazi persecution and violence, but also takes an active role in preventing genocide today through educational programming and political activism.

Temple Emanuel, Newton, Massachusetts

The theme for the 2012 Sisterhood Shabbat Service was “Gold on the Outside, Gold on the Inside.” Loren shared her story, speaking about her family’s history and her experience as Miss Massachusetts. She also discussed the importance of charity and of having and being a role model.

Keynote speaker. Loren spent the day at Camp Young Judaea conducting hour-long discussion groups with each age-group of campers. Together, they discussed the Jewish values of tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedakah (charity) and mitzvot (good deeds).

Princess Day at Childrens Hospital Boston

Loren visited patients, painted finger nails, decorated crowns and wands and spoke with children and families about the importance of giving back, dreaming big, and staying positive.

 

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Annual New England Fundraising Gala

Keynote speaker, delivered closing remarks. Other guest speakers included news anchor,Ted Koppel, and Jeffrey S. Flier, Dean of Harvard Medical School. Loren spoke about the importance of the museum, the inclusion of her grandmothers story in the museum's archives, and the importance of the museum's mission to educate the greater community about the Holocaust.

 

Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Annual Young Professionals Fundraising Gala

Loren was the keynote speaker at this event, held at the Old State House in downtown Boston. Loren spoke about the various CJP-funded programs she has participated in this year, as well as her generations commitment to Jewish causes. 

 

Café Europa at Temple Emeth, Chestnut Hill, MA

Keynote Speaker. Other speakers included Israel Arbeiter, President of the Greater Boston Holocaust Survivors, and Consul General to Germany, Friedrich Löhr. Loren addressed the greater Boston community of Holocaust survivors and their families. She spoke about continuing to tell the stories of the survivors, as well as the necessity of teaching the lessons of the Holocaust to school children of every ethnic, cultural, racial and socio-economic background.

 

Brockton Deployment Ceremony 

Keynote Speaker. Loren addressed the 1173rd Deployment & Distribution Support Battalion and their families as they prepared to deploy to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. As the granddaughter of a World War Two veteran, Loren spoke with gratitude about the bravery and commitment of the men and women of the armed services. Other speakers included Brigadier General (BG) Ivan Black.

 

Skating Club of Boston Annual Awards Dinner

Loren addressed the members of the Skating Club of Boston about the Clubs commitment to educating and encouraging young skaters. Other speakers included 2002 Olympic Champion, Sarah Hughes.

 

The Grow Clinic Fundraiser presented by the Mayflower Foundation

Keynote Speaker. Loren discussed her involvement in her mother's work in the area of childhood malnutrition, placing emphasis on its widespread prevalence within major US cities. Loren also spoke about the work she has done to promote her platform, Fighting Childhood Hunger.

New England Holocaust Memorial, 15th Anniversary Commemoration 

Keynote speaker. Other speakers included Boston City Councilor, Michael P. Ross, Consul General to Israel, Shai Bazak, and Consul General to Germany, Friedrich Löhr. Boston Mayor, Thomas Menino, was also in attendance. Loren spoke passionately about her grandmother's story of survival in the Holocaust, and the lessons about resilience, faith, and strength of character that were passed down to her through her mother and grandmother. Furthermore, she addressed the nearly 500 students in attendance, encouraging them to practice greater tolerance and kindness.

NA AMAT USA Luncheon

Keynote speaker. Loren spoke about her decision to make Aliyah to Israel in 2006, as well as her support of Israeli children and families living under the poverty line. Loren was the recipient of a spiritual adoption, an honorarium given in her name to an orphanage in the State of Israel.

 

Dorchester Community Center, in Partnership with Americorps

Loren spent the afternoon with over fifty after-school program participants, between the ages of 4 and 10. Loren spoke about the ingredients of a healthy diet, based on the work she has done with her mother in the area of childhood malnutrition. Loren also spoke at the importance of choosing positive role models.

 

Ice Stars for Wounded Warriors

Loren served as emcee for this star-studded ice show, held in Amherst, Massachusetts. All proceeds from this annual show benefit soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families.

 

Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven

Loren spoke to the members of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, a women's group that focuses on philanthropy for non-profit organizations both internal and external to the Jewish community. Loren spoke about her emphasis on public service as Miss Massachusetts, as well as the importance of instilling those values in our children.

 

MATCH: A Gala to Benefit Adoption and Foster Care Mentoring

 

Bnai Zion Fundraiser for Haifa's Underground Emergency Care Center

Keynote Speaker. Other speakers included Consul General to Israel, Shai Bazak, and Distinguished Humanitarian Award recipients, Peter Rosen, MD and Richard E. Wolfe, MD. Loren spoke about the need for an underground emergency medical center in Haifa, particularly in the wake of the 2006 conflict with Lebanon. Loren also spoke about her support for and commitment to the State of Israel.

Deadly Medicine, a Traveling Exhibit by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

Loren filmed promotional materials for Deadly Medicine, a traveling exhibit housed at Harvard Medical Schools Countway Library. As both a third generation survivor and future physician (and the daughter of two physicians), Loren spoke about the exhibit's exploration of the roles of medical professionals in Hitlers Third Reich, and the implications for modern medical ethics.

Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, Cambridge, MA

Loren spoke to high school students at her alma mater. Both high school and beauty pageants place great emphasis on fitting in and conforming to a stereotype. Loren spoke about the importance of self-awareness and being unique. 

 

Congregation Mishkan Tefilah Sisterhood Annual Spring Celebration, Newton, MA

Keynote Speaker. Loren addressed over two hundred members of the congregation. She spoke about her being the only Jewish contestant at the 2011 Miss America pageant, the ways in which that experience shaped her year of service as Miss Massachusetts and how it strengthened her commitment to Jewish causes and organizations.

 

Yom HaShaoh Havdalah Service,  Boston 3G and the Riverway Project, Temple Israel, Boston, MA

Keynote speaker. Loren spoke about her commitment to Holocaust education, and welcomed the observation of Yom HaShoah with a beautiful Havdalah service at Temple Israel..

National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Marty Glickman Outstanding Scholar/Athlete of the Year 

Loren was the 2011 recipient of the Marty Glickman Outstanding Jewish Scholastic Athlete of the Year Award, based on her achievements in figure skating, academics and her humanitarian work. She attended and spoke at the 19th Annual Indiction Ceremony of the Hall of Fame, Commack, NY

 

Wellesley High School in Wellesley, MA

Keynote Speaker. Loren lectured during Wellesley High Schools annual seminar day. Her speech was described as follows: "Take it from this figure-skating, piano-playing, poetry-writing, pre-med Harvard graduate and the only Jewish contestant at this years Miss America Pageant: being different is not always easy. Loren will speak about her path toward a career in medicine, the rewards of public service, and the importance of continuing to tell her Holocaust survivor grandparents' story. The talk will conclude with a Q&A session."

 

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Radiothon at Children's Hospital Boston

Loren was interviewed on MIX 104.1's Karson and Kennedy Morning Show based on her fundraising efforts on behalf of Children's Hospital Boston. Children's Miracle Network Hospitals also presented her with a special award in recognition of her efforts.

Generations Remember: a Promise for Boston 3G

Loren filmed a short video, which was featured on the Boston 3G website. The video described the mission of Generations Remember: A Promise. The promise encourages children, grandchildren and others connected to Holocaust survivors to place a virtual stone of remembrance at www.Boston3G.com/thepromise, symbolizing a pledge to never forget the stories, lessons, and those lost in the Holocaust.

90th Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada

Loren received the Miss America Miracle Maker Award, given to the contestant that raises the most money for Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals, the official charity of the Miss America Organization. Loren raised more money for CMNH than any other contestant in the history of the partnership between CMNH and Miss America.

Kick-off to the New England Holocaust Memorial 15th Anniversary at the Parkman House

Keynote Speaker, at Mayor of Boston, Thomas Menino's private residence. Loren spoke about her grandparents' story of survival and about the importance for her and her family to have a place of mourning. Other speakers included Steve Grossman, Treasurer and Receiver-General of Massachusetts, and Michael P. Ross, Boston City Councilor.

Princess Tea Party, Hosted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation  and Disney On Ice

Loren (along with Cinderella!) hosted a princess tea party for nearly thirty oncology patients at Children's Hospital Boston. The little girls received princess gowns and tiaras, and were treated to high tea with a real princess, Miss Massachusetts! Loren spoke with the children and their families about their personal battle with cancer.

Loren spoke about her commitment to childhood health and her involvement with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a charity that makes wishes come true for ill and injured children and their families.

Blades & Balloons, Skating Club of Boston, Brighton, MA

As a Goodwill Ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH), Loren was deeply moved by the extraordinary bravery of the CMNH Champions and their families. Drawing on her connections as Miss Massachusetts and a national champion figure skater, Loren produced Blades & Balloons, a figure skating fundraiser to benefit CMNH. She produced, directed, choreographed and starred in the show, along with invited local, national and international skaters. Blades & Balloons raised significant funds for children with serious illnesses.

 

St. Mary's School in Lynn, Massachusetts

Loren addressed the 9th-12th grades at a special assembly. She discussed the importance of academics and her journey toward a career in medicine. Loren also talked about breaking boundaries and defying stereotypes during her year as Miss Massachusetts.

 

The Park School in Brookline, Massachusetts

Loren spoke to the 5th through 9th grades about her educational goals, and how the Miss Massachusetts Scholarships dedication to public service was the perfect platform for her gap year between college and medical school.

MGH Endocrinology Unit Halloween Party

Loren spoke to patients at the MGH pediatric endocrinology unit about staying safe on Halloween, a holiday that can pose a health risk to diabetic children. Children learned about safe foods, while playing games and dressing in their favorite Halloween costumes!

Loren spoke about her commitment to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) and what it means to serve as the goodwill ambassador to Childrens Hospital Boston. She also promoted Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day, wherein a portion of Blizzard ice cream treat sales are donated to CMNH.

Holders Hill Summer Camp, Barbados

Loren spoke to the children participating in this federally-funded sports camp. She discussed her own athletic career in figure skating, and the positive impact it has had on her. She encouraged the children to brainstorm ways that sports can improve your lifeincluding betterment of physical health, work habits, discipline, and interacting with others.

 

Mosaic Youth Steel Pan Orchestra, Barbados

Loren spoke to orchestra members about the importance of a musical education. Loren also encouraged the musicians to use their talents by participating in community outreach at local churches, schools and elder care facilities.
